Ossipee Lake Alliance Seeks New Executive Director

Freedom—October 8, 2014—Ossipee Lake Alliance has announced that its Executive Director, Bob Reynolds, is resigning from that post to focus on managing Fair Funding for Invasives Control, the statewide milfoil funding coalition of which he is president.

Alliance co-founders David Smith and Susan Marks will serve as Co-Executive Directors until a replacement for Reynolds can be found. Reynolds will remain on the Ossipee Lake Alliance Board, where he has served since 2007.

In 2013 the Alliance helped Reynolds establish Fair Funding for Invasives Control as a separately incorporated organization with the goal of influencing legislators to address the shortfall of state funds dedicated to treating and removing variable milfoil and other aquatic invasive species (AIS) from infested waters.

In its first year, the organization scored a legislative victory with the approval of a bill to increase boat registration fees by $2, with the resulting $200,000 in additional revenue going to the state AIS control fund.

Alliance Co-Director David Smith said, “The Alliance has worked hard to create awareness that the state’s plan of relying on local funding for milfoil control is insufficient and unsustainable.”

“Bob and his coalition did a great job of translating that awareness into action with the passage of the first meaningful legislation in years to address the funding shortage. We’re pleased that he is committed to continuing to lead Fair Funding’s work, and we’re glad he has agreed to remain a member of the Alliance Board.”

Bob Reynolds said, “The responsibilities of running a business and leading the campaign to increase state funding for AIS control have made it impossible for me to devote the time needed to provide effective leadership of the Alliance. The Alliance plays a valuable role in the Ossipee Lake area, and I’m hopeful that we’ll soon find new leaders to continue its important work.”
