Local Trails Optimized for Great Snowmobiling

Ossipee — January 30, 2009 — We are deep into mid winter conditions, and the riding this weekend promises to be memorable. Recent snowfall, coupled with ideal nighttime temperatures, has allowed the area’s snowmobile clubs to optimize their trails and groom new areas.

A couple of major trail announcements should beckon any and all riders to head on up this weekend. For those wishing to travel north and south, Corridor 19 between Conway and Ossipee is now fully open and receiving frequent grooming.

While the northern half of this well- traveled corridor is in very good condition, you still need to exercise caution around switches, and watch for a few exposed rails in the southerly sections south of McDonald’s in West Ossipee. Remember, this heavily traveled corridor is groomed almost daily, but traffic can cause deterioration towards afternoons, especially on weekends.

Also, the Whiteface trail that connects the Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club (OVSC) trail systems to the Sandwich Sidehillers Club had just been reopened. This important connector trail is freshly groomed and allows fantastic riding from the White Lake State Park area to points west.

The Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club in West Ossipee has a large trail system abutting Ossipee Lake to the east, the Ossipee and Sandwich ranges to the west, the Valley to the north and a series of gateways to the Lakes Region to the south. With one large groomer and several small groomers this Club maintains more than 50 trail miles and 18 miles of State Corridor trail.

From the lower elevations with scenic views of Ossipee Lake, to high elevation riding affording fantastic views of Ossipee and Mount Washington Valley vistas, this is family riding at it’s best. Popular free places to park & ride include White Lake State Park, Samantha’s Inn or Canoe King all located on Route 16 in Tamworth.

Many local stores carry trail maps, and you can stop at the club’s headquarters at Canoe King/All Sports Autoracks to register your sleds, join an area club an pick up last minute supplies for your trip. There are numerous trailside restaurants as well, including Kelli’s Place, The Yankee Smokehouse, Sammy’s and even a trailside snack-shack newly opened this year, Barron’s Farm Snack-Shack.
