Alliance and Loon Lake Volunteers to Host Freedom Event

Freedom—July 17, 2013—Ossipee Lake Alliance and Freedom Loon Lake Volunteers will jointly sponsor a Freedom Old Home Week event called “State of the Loon: The Natural History, Challenges, and Successes of Loons in New Hampshire.” The event will be held on Monday, August 5th, at 7 p.m. at the Freedom Town Hall.

The speaker will be Harry Vogel, Senior Biologist for the Loon Preservation Committee, which is based in Moultonborough. The loon is a unique symbol of New Hampshire’s wild lakes and it holds a special place in the hearts of residents and visitors alike.

Vogel, who has been studying loons for more than 20 years, will talk about the challenges loons face and the work his organization is doing to restore and maintain a healthy loon population throughout the state. The Loon Preservation Committee monitors the health and productivity of loons and promotes a greater understanding of loons and the natural world.

The Loon Preservation Committee’s work is aided by local organizations like Ossipee Lake Alliance and Freedom Loon Lake Volunteers whose members participate in annual bird counts and monitor nesting locations.

This free program is open to the public, and the hall is handicap accessible. Click here for more information about the Freedom Old Home Week schedule.
