The Smart Report: Dam Closed Today

Freedom—April 27, 2016—I was at the Ossipee Lake dam at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) just as the state crew was packing up. They had completed installing the stanchions and stop logs on the north side dam and were closing all but one of the five gates on the south side. The one gate remains open to provide downstream water flow. Last year the dam was closed on May 8th.

The stated goal for spring dam closure is a lake level of 405′ before work can be done on the north side. This year the lake level was at 406.6′ on the first of April, and in 14 days was down to a reported 405.29′.

NOTE: For those who like detailed information, there was no water going over the north side a week ago when the reported lake level was 405.5′.
