Barre Hellquist Joins Alliance’s Board of Directors

Freedom — September 18, 2004 — Ossipee Lake Alliance has announced that Barre Hellquist has joined its Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Hellquist is Professor Emeritus of biology at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Massachusetts. His areas of interest are aquatic invasive plants and the pondweeds and waterlilies of North America and Australia. He has written or co-written more than 50 publications, including the two-volume “Aquatic and Wetland Plants of Northeastern North America,” considered to be the most comprehensive manual and illustrated guide of its kind.

In making the announcement, the Alliance’s president and executive director, David Smith, said “Barre and his family have been a part of the Ossipee Lake community for more than 60 years and we are thrilled to have him join our Board of Directors. His background and expertise will be invaluable in our milfoil prevention and control efforts and in the many other programs we have under development.”

Ossipee Lake Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of Ossipee Lake as a significant environmental, recreational, and economic resource. It maintains a website at www.ossipeelake.org.
