“Among the Bears” Will Close Out Freedom Old Home Week

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Freedom — August 1, 2005 — You’ve read about him in magazines and seen him on TV. Now you can meet New Hampshire naturalist and writer Ben Kilham in person on Saturday, August 6th as Ossipee Lake Alliance’s Tales of Ossipee Lake series presents “Among the Bears,” the final event in the 107th annual celebration of Freedom Old Home Week.

Kilham, who has raised and released 43 orphaned bear cubs, has become widely recognized for his contributions to wildlife science. He’s been featured in two National Geographic TV specials and the Discovery Channel’s special, “Papa Bear.” He has also appeared on Dateline NBC and has been profiled in People magazine and Field and Stream.

His slide-illustrated presentation will start at 8 PM outdoors under the big tent at Calumet Conference Center in Freedom, which is co-hosting the event. Signed copies of Kilham’s videos and his book, “Among the Bears,” will be available to purchase and to win.

Admission is free and it will be a great night of family entertainment. Directions to Calumet Conference Center are online at www.calumet.org.

Ancient Residents

Just a few days later, on Wednesday August 10th, the final Tales of Ossipee Lake event of the season will take place when the Alliance and the Calumet Nature Series present “Ancient Residents,” State Archeologist Dick Boisvert’s presentation about life on the lake 8,000 years ago.

The lake is the site of some of our oldest settlements. If you have an artifact that you’ve found in our area, bring it with you and Dick will help identify what it is and how old it might be. “Ancient Residents” starts at 7:30 PM and will also be outdoors under the big tent at Calumet.
