Ossipee — November 3, 2006 — Ossipee’s tax rate is up 10 to 15 percent from last year, depending on the precinct. Selectmen announced the 2006 tax rates at the board’s meeting Monday afternoon.
The base tax rate is $12.44 per $1,000 valuation, including rates of $4.50 for the town, $0.73 for the county, $5.07 for the town school portion and $2.14 for the state school portion. Last year’s rates were: $3.65 for the town portion, $0.67 for the county portion, $4.86 for the town school portion and $2.07 for the state school portion, for a total base rate of $11.25 per $1,000 valuation.
Voters at annual meeting approved several special warrant articles this year that contributed to the increase in the town portion of the tax rate, including: $100,000 for road repairs, $293,500 for bridge repairs on Valley Road Bridge, $50,000 for a new town public works director position, $38,000 for a new recreation department assistant director position, and $20,000 for the Ossipee Lake Beach project.
Center Ossipee Fire Precinct adds $1.18 (up from $1.07/$1,000 last year) for a total of $13.62. The rate is 10.6 percent higher than last year’s rate of $12.32. The tax bill on a $200,000 home in Center Ossipee would be $2,724. West Ossipee Fire Precinct’s rate increased from $1.13 last year to $1.78 this year, of a total of $14.22 per $1,000. This is an increase of 14.9 percent over last year’s rate. The tax bill on a $200,000 home in West Ossipee would be $2,844.
Ossipee Corner Fire Precinct adds $1.57 per $1,000, an increase of 40 cents over last year’s precinct rate of $1.18. The total tax rate is $14.01 per $1,000, an increase of 12.7 percent over last year’s rate of $12.43. The tax bill on a $200,000 home in Ossipee Corner is $2,802.
Tax bills will go out Nov. 1 and are due by Dec. 6.
The total tax commitment for the town is $7,761,035. The population of Ossipee is 4,637. The total net valuation of properties in town is $718,103,050. The most recent equalized value of properties (2005) is 103 percent of actual values. The last revaluation of property values in Ossipee was done in 2003.
