New Lifejacket Rule

Freedom — August 28, 2007 — Alan Stolz, the state secretary of Marine Patrol Auxiliary, has alerted people to a change in the state boating rules. All children under age 13 must wear a lifejacket on all boats. This includes canoes, kayaks and sailboats, as well as all rentals.

This ruling went into effect last week, is mandatory and will appear in the boating handbook due in midwinter. Currently, warnings are being issued for those not in compliance with this ruling.
