Build Now, Race on July 30

Freedom – July 18, 2011 – It’s not too late – in fact it’s just the right time – to get set for the Cardboard Boat Race to be held from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 on Ossipee Lake. Participants can build single, double, or multiple-person craft and are encouraged to decorate their boats that will be “raced” along a defined course in front of the Freedom Condominiums, near the end of Berry Bay.

All local citizens, summer residents, campers and guests are encouraged to create an entry and compete for trophy categories including 1-2 person boat or team boat in adult (17+) and youth (10-16) age groups. Award categories are “Speed Award,” “Team Spirit Award,” and “Titanic Award” (the most dramatic unintentional sinking).

If you need cardboard, plenty is available from Dick Many at (603) 301-1107, and an entry application is available at www.freedomoldhomeweek.com or at the Freedom Village Store. For additional information call (603) 539-5799.

The Cardboard Boat Race is part of Freedom Old Home Week, which runs from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, August 7.
