Ossipee—June 3, 2025—Carol Gemmiti went missing last Sept. 27 walking near Ossipee Lake. Eight months later, she’s still missing. Now a billboard has been erected on Route 16 near Green Mountain Furniture that seeks clues to find the 67-year-old woman.
The sign, which asks, “Have you seen this person?” was installed by Gemini Sign and Design of Conway on behalf of the Gemmiti family.
Last Tuesday, Police Chief Donald Babbin said there are no leads. On Wednesday, New Hampshire Fish & Game Sgt. Alex Lopashanski said New England K-9 is scheduled to come back to search the area on June 21.
When last seen Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. walking in the area of 48 Bay Point Road on Ossipee Lake, Carol was wearing gray sweatpants and a sweater. She is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds. She is the aunt of former Conway Daily Sun staff photographer Jamie Gemmiti.
Carol and her husband, Don Gemmiti, are from Florida and were in Ossipee for a vacation. He said that he and his family had the sign put up. They also had postcards sent to every postal customer in Center Ossipee, Effingham and Freedom. There are 1,555 customers in Center Ossipee, there are 1,215 customers in Freedom and 767 in Effingham.
She and Don were staying at his family’s cottage on Bay Point Road, a place Carol had been to once before. Bay Point Road is on a peninsula between Broad Bay and Leavitt Bay on Ossipee Lake.
Don Gemmiti said their “only hope” is seasonal residents may run across her as they open their properties this spring. He said Civil Air Patrol did a search by plane on May 4.
“Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 58,000 members,” said nhwg.cap.gov.
After she was reported missing, state police activated the Missing Vulnerable Adult/Silver Alert System. A search was conducted that involved a helicopter, boats, divers and K9s. New Hampshire Fish and Game also searched Ossipee Lake with their sonar-equipped boat. Some reports say Carol suffers from memory loss.
Last November a reward was upped from $2,000 to $5,000. Information about Gemmiti’s whereabouts should be given to Ossipee Police. The police can be reached at (603) 539-2011.
