Freedom—August 28, 2025—Gloria Bouchard Villari has joined the Board of Directors of Ossipee Lake Alliance, effective immediately.

The Broad Bay resident is well known on Ossipee Lake, having served as Secretary of the Broad-Leavitt Bay Association and a board member of Friends of Constitution Park.

She is the founder and Chair of Friends of Ossipee Lake, an offshoot of Ossipee Lake Alliance that is exploring creative ways to balance recreation and conservation through public education and policy development.

 “I believe in finding a middle ground,” she said in a recent forum.

“When we do so, we will have succeeded in embracing and respecting each other’s needs while protecting the lake.”

The Fort Kent, Maine, native said she developed a “healthy respect and admiration for nature” while living in the “beautiful and wildly remote” St. John Valley.

She said she first encountered the friction between the economic benefits and environmental costs of development when her home town split into factions over the controversial Dickey-Lincoln Dam on the St. John River.

“I remember the church bells ringing loudly throughout the valley to victoriously signal the approval of the dam,” she said. “Later came the realization of what was being lost.”

Villari’s career in healthcare began with a job as a physical therapist and proceeded to corporate work at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Health South. She established a private physical therapy practice in 2007, and retired from the practice in 2021.

During her career, she and her husband, Phillip, raised their children in Wayland, MA, and spent summers in the Broad Bay home that Phillip’s parents built in the 1950s. She and Phillip now live on the lake most of the year.

“The lake has always been near and dear to our hearts, and our eight grandchildren show us that the love of nature is inherent in our family,” she said.

Ossipee Lake Alliance is a 501c3 not-for-profit New Hampshire corporation dedicated to preserving and protecting Ossipee Lake and its surrounding waters for the benefit of all. It was founded in in 2003 and is based in Freedom.
