Center Ossipee Fire Rescue’s Busy Two Days

In the past 24 hours, COFD has responded to two incidents at the 25 East (Pine River) boat launch.

On Wednesday, August 12th, at 7:09 pm, COFD was activated by Carroll County Dispatch for a report of a pick-up truck, with boat trailer attached, partially submerged in the water at the 25 East boat launch ramp. Squad 1 responded with a crew under the command of Lt Martino. Captain Quigley (C2) also responded.

Firefighters utilized the winch system on Squad 1 to pull the vehicle to dry ground, where it was stabilized with cribbing until Crowell’s Towing arrived on scene to further assist the vehicle owner with removal.

On Thursday, August 13th, at 6:38 am, COFD was again activated by Carroll County Dispatch to respond to the boat launch for a report of a sinking boat. Captain Quigley (C2), Squad 1 under the command of Lt Martino, Utility 1, Ambulance 1, and Boat 2 all responded.

Companies arrived to find a boat partially submerged approximately 40 yards from the boat launch. Although the boat appeared to be abandoned, a rapid entry search was conducted to confirm there were no submerged victims. The search proved negative. The NH Department of Environmental Services was requested to the scene due to fuel and oil leakage from the vessel. Crews remained on scene to assist NHDES with containment and clean-up.

Whiting’s Automotive Repair Towing And Recovery responded with their rotator and did an outstanding job of removing the vessel from the water. This incident was unrelated to the prior truck and trailer call. All companies were cleared by 10 am and the boat launch was re-opened to the public.
