The Department of Environmental Services has released a comprehensive report on its near-term and long-term recommendations to control invasive variable milfoil in the Ossipee Lake system. Non-native milfoil was discovered in Broad Bay in 1995, and the latest infestation was found in the big lake near the mouth of the Pine River in 2012. Click below to read or download the report.
The Nature Conservancy says the latest burn will be north of Ossipee Lake Road in Freedom. Controlled burns are used as part of land management in the Ossipee Pine Barrens.

A free public workshop in Freedom on March 23 will highlight gravel road maintenance techniques to improve performance and durability, while helping protect surface water quality through properly managed drainage.
