The boat basin at the Westward Shores marina is the latest location documented to contain variable milfoil. The chance discovery last week is a reminder that state and local officials need the help of lake residents and boaters to identify infestations so they can be treated before they spread.
In a recent ruling, a Superior Court judge clarified that her February decision to deny a complaint by Westward Shores campers against the campground's previous owners, Anthony Aversa and Joan Brassill, pertains only to one of the four counts alleged in the case. The other three counts of the class action lawsuit remain open and unresolved.
